SUSTAINABILITY

The Chamber is dedicated to acting in a sustainable manner, as well as providing resources for and inspiring the wider Waikato business community to do the same. Below is an overview of what we are currently doing or plan to do.

In 2024 we intend to increase what we are doing in this area, as well as promote our members' sustainability efforts through our promotion channels. If you would like to cooperate with us or share what you or your business are doing in the sustainability field, please contact Rob.

Events

Throughout the year, the Chamber will organise events focused on or related to sustainability topics.

Waikato Construction Waste Stories

Waste from construction and demolition is estimated to make up around half of the total amount of waste going to landfill in New Zealand.

Right here in the Waikato we have lots of amazing organisations rethinking their approach to waste in a way that’s better for business, better for our environment and better for our communities.

Hamilton City Council and Waikato Regional Council have collaborated to create a video series showcasing some of these stories as a way to inspire action and continue the conversation about how we can all make a difference when it comes to construction and demolition waste.

Check out the full video on the right or the short versions here, which feature our members Foster Group Limited, APL, Naylor Love, Stark Property and Downey Construction Ltd.

Instep Carbon and Sustainability Programme

The Chamber participates in Instep’s Carbon and Sustainability Programme. This means we have committed to taking action to reduce our environmental impact, and will undergo an independent carbon assessment throughout the year with the goal of reducing our carbon footprint.

We will share the process we go through and our results with our members over the next year as we go through the programme.
