A big investment in the future prosperity of Hamilton and the Waikato

By Don Good

When big Waikato events are on like Fieldays, Maadi Cup, WakaAma, All Black and Chiefs rugby, fans from outside of the region have been forced for years to find accommodation as far afield as Tauranga, Rotorua, or resort to driving daily from Auckland.

This will change as Templeton Group have announced their proposal to develop the council Victoria St site.

“This announcement for the development of the council site on Victoria St is long overdue and very welcome investment news for the city and the region” said Chief Executive of the Waikato Chamber of Commerce, Don Good

The Templeton/Hamilton City proposal envisages a tiered 25 -storey development with hotel accommodation, apartments and a river front dining and entertainment precinct very similar to the Viaduct Harbour precinct developed by Templeton Group founder Nigel Mackenna.

“It is wonderful to see Hamilton City developing in a manner that gives us and our guests greater access and interaction with the Waikato River which is one of the gems of our region. Full credit to the Hamilton City Council for getting this over the line. We look forward to seeing the design renderings,” Good said

“We see the development community is busy at present. Matt Stark has completed Made, Fosters are closing in on the opening of the regional theatre, Double Tree by Hilton is proposed for just off the expressway at Cambridge and Piso Pienaar and Sanjiil Mistry are heavily into the stunning redevelopment of the Tower block into a very classy Pullman Hotel. A building of this stature continues to add to the Waikato development pipeline”

“When you add to this the imminent arrival of Jetstar International flights, you can see the City and Region are growing. The Templeton development simply reinforces just how positively very smart and canny investors view the benefits of in investing in the Waikato”
