Welcome to the Chamber: Rebecca Aston

We sat down with the Chamber's new Marketing and Events Manager, Rebecca Aston, to get to know more about her.

Hi Rebecca, welcome to the team, can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

Born and raised in Rotorua, I moved to Hamilton 16 years ago to study at the University of Waikato. Job opportunities and the close proximity of the Waikato to other cities in NZ, led me to purchase a house and settle down in Hamilton.

Outside of my career, I enjoy cooking and gardening. I also hold several volunteering roles, including, being a Wish Fairy for the Make-A-Wish Foundation and a Trustee on the Hamilton Christmas Trust.

Tell us about your work history.

I’ve held various events and communications roles over the last 13 years. For the past seven years I was the Major Events Manager at H3 Group, helping to put our city and region on the world stage when it came to events. I have been involved in securing and leading several World Cups and other major international events, including most recently leading our cities responsibilities for the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023, our largest event in history. I also played a pivotal role in driving numerous projects within H3 Group, including an 83-metre-long history wall At FMG Stadium Waikato.

What does your role at the Chamber entail?

As the Marketing and Events Manager I'll play a key role in ensuring the growth of the Chamber and the successful delivery of benefits that are of value to our membership.

I will be responsible for marketing the Chamber through all forms of media, to both the wider public and to members. I'll also plan and lead industry events for members across the Waikato.

What are your strengths and skills?

I’m an organiser! I thrive on planning and delivering events of all sizes. I’m also a great communicator, relationship builder and enjoy public speaking and voice-over work.

What are you looking forward to bringing to the Chamber?

I’m looking forward to bringing my event experience and ideas to life for our members. I’m keen to share my passion for the Waikato and help grow our thriving business community.

Where is your favourite place in the Waikato?

The newly opened MADE in Hamilton East. It’s a fantastic new development that has a really awesome vibe. I love walking there on the weekend to have a coffee or lunch.
